The Channel Islands Federation of Freshwater Anglers first took part in the FIPS-ED World Freshwater Float fishing Championships in 1992. The team went to Enniskillen, Ireland, and returned with a team Bronze medal. To date, this is still the best team performance. In the last few years CIFFA have had some good individual results.  In 2009 Greig Brown finished overall in 5th position with a section win and 2nd tying with the silver medallist but losing out on the combined weight. Andy Gray won his section in 2010 and Garry Crisp winning his section in 2015

1992 Bronze winning team

In 2016 CIFFA managed to secure Eric Humphries as their coach. Eric was the former manager of the Welsh team for nearly 20 years turning them into a top ten team in the rankings. CIFFA are extremely lucky to have him. Currently CIFFA are ranked in 32nd position and hope to move into the top 20 within 5 years.

2017 has been a landmark year for CIFFA as they are now affiliated to FIPS Mouche and took part in their first world championships in September 2018. CIFFA believe the venue is in Italy and this will be a great new experience for the team.

Greig Brown has been elected to the World governing body CIPS Presidium and is also the President of the new athlete’s commission that has been set up by CIPS. This is a great achievement and helps to put angling in the Channel Islands on the map.

CIFFA have also initiated a talent pathway in conjunction with the Jersey Freshwater Angling Association to identify up and coming youngsters / juniors during targeted coaching session. Those youngsters / juniors who demonstrate certain abilities will be invited to step up to the next level and will be coached by a level 2 coach on international styles and techniques that are needed as well as explaining all the rules and anti-doping policies with the intention that they progress into the CIFFA squad.
